How can we thank the Kayenta residents enough for coming out to support the theatre in our inaugural season? By offering you more great community building events, plays, concerts & lectures! It truly was a success because of your patronage. We are excited to announce that 1/2 season tickets will be available at the end of June!
In the meantime don’t forget to come out and see the Pulitzer Prize nominated play “Other Desert Cities.” This family drama, with a good dose of edgy combustible comedy, will definitely have you laughing through tears. This story is an emotional roller coaster ride you do not want to miss. Please note there is strong language and thought provoking content. This is a play for grown-ups. Plays June 1st-10th.
Then get out of the heat and visit Truvey‘s beauty salon as Steel Magnolias hits the stage in July.
We welcome your ideas and suggestions to make season 2 an even more enjoyable experience. Please stop by and let us know of something you’d like to see at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. Be A Part Of The Art!
Thanks again for a great season!
Jan Broberg, Director, Center for the Arts at Kayenta
Plays June 1st – 10th
Tickets: $30
Check website for dates and start times
Other Desert Cities delivers serious family drama and combustible comedy.
No subject is sacred in the Wyeth family. Politics, personal shortcomings, successes and failures…any and all topics are up for discussion. Except one. As this modern family deals with it’s collective demons, the audience is taken on a thrill ride that will have them by turns laughing, in tears…and challenging assumptions. Acclaimed playwright Jon Robin Baitz’ Other Desert Cities premiered Off-Broadway in early 2011 and transferred to Broadway later that year. An audience and critics’ favorite, it was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. For those who enjoy edgy, grownup entertainment, Douglas Caputo brings it to Kayenta.
The Plot: Brooke Wyeth returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, brother, and aunt. Brooke announces she’s about to publish a memoir that dredges up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened. Nonetheless, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it. The play explores the limits of parental love and filial duty, our myth-making culture, and the claim we have on our own biography when it involves the invasion of privacy of others.
