The Force of “Value” – by Douglas Caputo

The Force of “Value” – by Douglas Caputo

You’re in the market for a home. Like most savvy buyers you have completed an impressive amount of research. With feelings of pride and a sense of accomplishment you are ready to begin looking at available properties that pique your interest.

Armed with real time knowledge courtesy of the World Wide Web and enough high tech equipment to make R2-D2 blush with envy, you set forth on an excursion to slay the mighty market. The galaxy lies before you with a seemingly endless selection of homes that range from deplorable to inspirational. Lackluster losers and so-so slackers lay strewn along your path like corpses. When all of the sudden it dawns on you that you are no closer to making a decision than when you started, perhaps even more confused.

Now may be a good time to consider the issue of value

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the noun “value” in several ways, two of which often apply to purchasing a home:

1: the monetary worth of something
2: relative worth, utility, or importance

Too often as buyers we tend to narrow our focus on a small portion of the value range. Value is many things to many people. What is valuable to some may be valueless to others. In this economy it is tempting to use price as an overriding factor in reaching this important decision. Price has its place for sure but aren’t there are other factors to consider?

Chances are your home will be your sanctuary. It will be offered to friends and loved ones as place to connect and share meaningful memories. On the deepest level your home is a manifestation of the love and appreciation you have for yourself, life and the special people in it.

We owe it to ourselves to pay attention to our own unique value system, or what I call our life force. To do that it’s often beneficial to begin at the end. Visualize the mood and feelings you want your home to project. What is important to you? Can you find that in an existing home? If you can, fantastic there are some great “values” out there. Or is the selection of available homes leaving you less than excited? If so, why not consider creating your ultimate expression with a custom plan? It’s a fun, rewarding and surprisingly time efficient.

Above all, trust in the knowledge that there is the perfect home for you out there and let not the market intimidate you. A wise little friend once told me that “…the fear of loss is a path to the dark side.”
How will you know what is best for you? Perhaps sage advice from my friend Yoda will help “…you will know when you are calm, at peace, passive…” oh, and you are always welcome to call the Kayenta Homes and Properties Sales Office and speak with our expert sales staff to discuss the universe of options available.

May the force be with you,
