August 2016

It’s HOT in Kayenta but we have the summer routine down. Outdoor exercise takes place before the sun rises. Walkers, hikers and bikers are out early morning enjoying Kayenta’s spectacular vistas as the morning sun envelops Red Mountain. Breakfasts (and for some dinners) are being enjoyed on shaded patios among the song of birds and the serenity of our peaceful environment. Hearty winter meals have been replaced by lighter summer fare: grilled Mahi and fresh baby greens or maybe its  BBQd chicken and a fresh fruit salad.  FREIS fruit market and Harmons are humming and its not uncommon to run into your Kayenta neighbors while shopping for the best that’s local and fresh.  And the evening beverage— well, it should be cool too. Don’t forget the twist.

Enjoy Kayenta’s summers, remember to hydrate and don’t forget we have a beautiful pool* to cool off in if you still want to beat the heat. *It is not too late for residents to purchase a Kayenta Recreation Association membership. Contact Erin in Accounting, 932-B  N. Art Village Way. Office is open M-F.

KAYENTA HOMES & PROPERTIES

Kayenta Homes & Properties

It seems we’ve had a hot quiet summer this year, but through the month of July, three Kayenta Homes have gone under contract.  All three homes that are currently pending and scheduled to close this month are listings of Kayenta Homes & Properties.  Through our extensive outreach and marketing we are still able bring viable buyers to the Kayenta area…even when it’s an off season.  Since these homes have not closed we cannot divulge the sales price, but we can tell you that all three of them are setting higher values for the Kayenta resale market!

KAYENTA DESERT ARBORETUM ~ Roger Head ~

Exciting news from the Kayenta Desert Arboretum Foudation. We have been hard at work developing a project to link the Arboretum with the Desert Rose Labyrinth and to make substantial improvements throughout. After several months of discussions with a number of State and Local agencies, we have confirmed a commitment of $31,400 toward this major project improvement. Work will begin once temperature have begun to drop this fall. Project funds will be primarily be used for the purchase of materials and we are dependent on community volunteers to accomplish the work. We are in the process of preparing a volunteer list. If you can assist, please contact Roger Head, rbh@mtaonline.net or 435-632-1814.

INKAS – IVINS NO KILL ANIMAL SUPPORTERS ~ Sara Dupre ~

We are often asked “What does INKAS do for the shelter?”

Not only do we put in many hours of fundraising, but volunteers help clean the shelter and animal areas on a regular basis.  You’ll see us out walking dogs.  We play and nurture the cats and kittens.  Your generosity has enabled INKAS to provide requested specialty foods, nutritional supplements, collars, leashes, etc.  We transport animals for veterinary services and when asked we pay for their care.  An abandoned pregnant dog has been fostered by one of our own and has given birth to 5 adorable puppies.  Every week we transport dogs to WOOF for basic training, positive reinforcement and interactive play.   We are able to pay for these classes because of donations from the community.   Thanks to your support we recently completed, in cooperation with the city, an expansion of the shelter.  Space was created so more dogs can be outside at one time.  Shade sails were purchased for their protection and comfort.  More space was added to the cat area and we purchased an exercise cat wheel and additional PVC cat condos.  We volunteer at shelter adoption events, transporting animals, supplies and support the staff during the event.

We are busy!  We couldn’t do any of this without the continued support of our wonderful community and volunteers!  Our yard sale in June was a rocketing success!  Thank you all for your donations!  Our next event will be “Mutts & Music” at Tuacahn.  This delightful musical presentation featuring professional performers from the Tuacahn 2016 Season and homeless pets from the shelter.  It is great fun for the whole family!
