Coyote TalesCoyote Tales Storytelling • October 7th

“We put our water behind a creosote bush to keep it cool while we hiked. But on the way back, all creosotes look the same….”

Coyote TalesCoyote Tales is moving to the big theater! After July’s sold-out event, we’re moving to the Lorraine Boccardo Theater in the new Kayenta Center for the Arts. Tickets are selling briskly and we are hoping for some amazing story tellers to get on stage and share their tales.  We want to hear your story.

Coyote Tales are live, open-mic style story telling events with amateur and experienced story tellers. Our next storytelling event is scheduled for October 7, 2017.

Coyote Tales The theme for the evening’s stories – Lesson Learned

Get ready to tell your story about lessons learned. Mother’s advice not heeded? Maybe life has schooled you in an unusual way. Has reckless behavior yielded reckless results? Or were best practices ignored to surprising endings…. When the doors open, potential story tellers put their name in the hat hoping to be chosen to share their story. If chosen, the story teller takes the stage to delight the audience. Stories must be true, told live, within the given time frame (5 minutes). They must be told without notes, props, or accompaniment. Please no standup routines or rants.

For help developing your story, check out our website.  Once there, you can get storytelling tips and tricks and access to a few storytelling pros to help you master storytelling greatness.  Get the whole story at coyotetales.kayentaartsfoundation.org/

All events are held at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. Start time is 7:30 pm sharp. Shows run approximately 90 minutes. Out of respect for our storytellers, late comers will not be admitted until intermission. If you are interested in getting on stage, please arrive by 6:30 to get your name in the hat and walk through event layout. Please find Victoria when you arrive to get set up.

Ticket price is $15.00.  Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Coyote Tales website: coyotetales.kayentaartsfoundation.org/ or
the KAF website kayentaartsfoundation.org/events.html
or at the door on the evening of the event.  Seating is limited.

Grand Opening of the Lorraine Boccardo Theater
Center for the Arts at Kayenta

Offering two special evenings of food, entertainment and a performance of
the Broadway musical [title of show]. Yes, that’s the title of the show!

Friday October 20th and Saturday October 21st.
Tickets will be on sale soon.
The play will continue to run October 26th, 27th and 28th

[Title of Show]

[title of show]

Music & Lyrics by Jeff Bowen Book by Hunter Bell in association with R&H THEATRICALS and Directed by Dougals Caputo

Kayenta Arts Foundation presents the best musical you’ve never heard of! [title of show] is a funny, slightly irreverent and uplifting musical. The New York Times said it’s “…obsessively and hilariously self referential…” and “…far funnier than many of the more expensively manufactured musicals that make it to Broadway…” [title of show] will be making it’s southern Utah premiere and be the inaugural theatrical performance at the Center for the Arts at Kayenta, in October.

This show is intended for a mature audience. For Tickets visit: KayentaArts.com

Unless otherwise mentioned, events will be held at the Lorraine Boccardo Theater, Center for the Arts. Some listed programing is tentative and in the  early stages of development. All programing is subject to change.

Updates from Kayenta Development

Kayenta Development continues to design and build the Taviawk subdivision by slowly adding lots west of Talasi Way and on both sides of Paiute Drive. New lots are added based on sales forecasts and buyer demand. Additionally, new home construction in the lower Taviawk area will continue, as lots sell. Improvements to portions Paiute Drive are also in the planning stages as the temporary chip-seal road will be replaced with asphalt once utilities and permanent drainage are constructed.

Kayenta Art Village (aka Coyote Gulch Resort Commercial)
As a matter of procedure and to meet requirements for Ivins City, the plat map for the Art Village is in the process of being updated and amended to match the current ownerships and boundaries. On another subject, planned improvements to the village will begin shortly with the addition of dumpster enclosures to screen them from view.

Crescent Moon Village • A Planned Mixed Use Community
The Crescent Moon Village is located south of the Ivins Reservoir/Fire Lake Park. It includes the Kayenta RV Storage Units as well as the Crescent Moon Inn. Recent additions to the area include a privately owned car storage building and a three-unit residential building that is currently under construction. This area is designated for a mixture of uses and the current plan is to continue to offer storage and short term and long term residential rental. Along with residential living units, light commercial such as workshops and studios are also permitted. Covenants are being developed to fit this unique mixed use subdivision.

Like the Art Village, the plat map for this area is being redrawn to meet new boundaries and ownerships. Kayenta Development stays engaged with Ivins City, as it continues to make improvements to the adjacent Fire Lake Park. Keeping Kayenta residents best interest in mind, Terry Marten and KDI have negotiated a deal with Ivins City to prevent vehicles from parking on the peninsula south of the reservoir (visible to Kayenta residents). Terry Marten provided land to increase the city’s parking lot and space for parallel parking along the access road. The result is an increase to the park open-space and more hidden parking areas. Unfortunately, this negotiation process and subsequent alterations to the plat map have caused delays in planning and construction but in the long term hugely benefits the community. KDI will continue to work with the city on other details including landscape and lighting. A new security/access gate is being installed from the Fire Lake access road which allows residents and RV Storage tenants to have exclusive access.
